I love a good relay, the excitement of watching your team mate start their leg as the rest of the team jump in the car, racing to get to the handover point, following instructions to get to new places, calculating whether there is enough time to stop for Costa. Throwing your car on a verge as you race to the handover point, realising that stopping for Costa was a mistake as you see your team mate excitedly running towards you with the baton.
We had a fantastic day on Monday at Milton Keynes Marathon relay, RunVerity had 7 teams entered into this event and team Chimp My Ride, (Graham Hoskins, Dan Rourke, Jason Watts and myself) came 15th out of the 128 teams wth a marathon time of 3hrs 26 mins.
We also had a RunVerity member that completed the half marathon.
Southampton Marathon is always a brilliant event, it is one of the best local races that ticks all the boxes, it’s well organised, has a variety of distances, the atmosphere is electric and the course challenging. I was lucky enough to coach the ABP run club again this year and over the last 10 weeks we have worked hard on hill repeats and speed. I was so proud of all of their achievements on Sunday, those cold, wet and dark nights pounding up Itchen Bridge certainly paid off.
I also coached RunVerity members who achieved so much at Southampton on Sunday, first 10ks and first half marathons. The weather was kind and we were in our usual spot on the finish line cheering our runners in, so many flying feet at the finish
