We've been talking to some of our RunVerity members to see how they've been getting on. See what they had to say!
WHAT MADE YOU JOIN RUNVERITY?
I first tried running when I got divorced in 2006, only running round the block and very slowly but this really helped with my depression at the time. A close friend of mine challenged me to run the GSR in 2008, due to lack of direction or training I got through in 1:32:30 with a combination of machismo and grim deterination, a good time but I couldn't walk for days afterwards. My wife Fiona had been running with RunVerity for 5 months before I joined in 2015, I wanted us to do something together so I joined as well.
WHAT DIFFERENCE HAS JOINING RUNVERITY MADE TO YOUR RUNNING?
After just 6 months running with RV, I ran the GSR in 1:24:40 and 3 weeks later ran my first half marathon in 1:56:44. I was hooked on running, really enjoying running with the group and benefiting from the advice and expertised I was receiving from Verity. Not only has my running technique improved, but my stamina and mental strength.
HOW HAS A COACHED GROUP IMPROVED YOUR RUNNING?
This year I ran the GSR in 1:09:03 an improvement of over 23 minutes on my non coached time back in 2008. I have just run a half marathon in 1:30:45, an improvement of 25 minutes from my first half marathon a year ago. I have now run 32 parkruns and 3 of these have been sub 20 minutes, my best being 19:37 - an improvement of 7 minutes on my non coached time.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO ANYONE WHO WAS THINKING OF JOINING RUNVERITY?
I now love running, I run 3-4 times a week and I know I have better times to come. I am running London Marathon in 2017 and have learned so much about running and myself. I am just a very normal and ordinary 46 year old, I have not been born with special running skills, everything I have achieved is a result of excellent coaching in a fun and friendly group. Just come along and see what you can achieve in the right environment.
