I am privileged to hear so many different people’s stories, stories about what makes them who they are and why they do the things that they do. These stories can in time become people’s belief systems and these beliefs about themselves can potentially stop them from achieving their goals and they can end up being stuck in a rut.
It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or an experienced runner if you have a belief system that internally portrays a negative story about who you are and what your identity is then this can have a limiting factor affecting whether you progress any further in what you want to achieve. If we relate this to running then your story may be that you can’t run, you are too old to exercise, or too fat or too busy, the session times don’t work for me, life has got in the way and you are too tired, you have no energy, your gym kit needs washing, or you haven’t got a gym kit or the latest gear, you are too overweight to exercise or even be seen running in public, you are not confident enough to run with an “established” group of runners, the group is too fast/slow for you, you can’t keep up, you’ll get left behind.
If you are stuck in a rut and you want to change then you can re-write your story so that you can feel happier and healthier and be the best version of ourselves.
Over the years, from listening to people’s stories I have adapted and developed RunVerity and my emails back to people are always positive saying don’t worry you are not too overweight, too tired or too busy. Don’t worry you will learn how to run, I’ll give you the skills, you don’t need the latest gear, leggings and a tshirt will do, we have 10 sessions a week plus weekend runs. We loop so you won’t get left behind, you can walk, you can go at your own pace, we are friendly, we have a buddy system, we have training plans, we have Pilates, we have a Sports Therapist…………..
My latest development is helping you to re-write your story and take ownership of your goal that you would like to achieve. I haven’t invented anything new, just used some good old fashioned teaching techniques and resources and a bit of Word Art!
