My dad was a runner well before I was and I spent many races supporting him, travelling around to different races, making sure he had everything, counting out safety pins and being there with a cup of tea at the end. I had always wanted to be able to run but never managed running and breathing at the same time. It was my dad who taught me how to run, one Christmas holiday in France and I've never looked back. As an incentive to do my first 10k in under an hour he promised me a bottle of fizz if I achieved this goal. I trained and trained and back in 2002 I ran Power FM's Feet Beat 10k in Southsea. I just managed to nip in under an hour and was rewarded with my fizz. From then on Dad and I ran a lot of races together and for his 60th birthday we ran our first marathon together (who knew the IOW marathon was hilly?)
Dad and I at the finish of the IOW Marathon in 2005, as you can see I'm very impressed with my first marathon and can't wait to get signed up to the next one ;)
My mum and dad are huge supporters of RunVerity and support our races whenever they are down visiting us. As a family, we decided that we would like to offer the same incentive to RV runners which is called the Tribe Foundation. This means that when you run a 10k in under an hour for the first time you will receive a bottle of fizz.
